if you need a reason to avoid getting into nuclear enrichment (aside from the obvious risks): involves a lot more elemental fluorine than I'm generally comfortable with

somehow the uranium manages to not be the part of that reaction scheme I am most afraid of

I mean once it's been enriched (just separated by isotope), sure the Uranium is the most dangerous part -- but when you'd be doing that reaction it's mostly U-238, I'd be much more afraid of the fluorine or ClF3 parts

whoever came up with that reaction scheme is Dangerous and Not To Be Fucked With

@jacethechicken I don't see what the problem is, U-238 tastes pretty good if you ask me
